How To Master Valentine's Day

This is what love looks like people. First off, this post is not about my wonderful and loving relationship with JH, which has been going on for two years now. Instead I am going to tell you how you can become a master of Valentine's Day. Yes, Valentine's Day is another "Hallmark holiday" where the hyped-up consumer world tells us what to do. Buy chocolates, candies, cards, flowers, balloons and so on. However, I feel Valentine's Day is really not about all this junk but rather about you and your ability to love another person and be loved.

To "Master" Valentine's day, I believe, you need to get to a point in your life where you are comfortable with yourself and able to trust someone else to accept that. Unless you are the lucky few in life who grow up knowing who you are and are comfortable with it then you are like me, a person who went through their 20's figuring themselves out.

A lot of young expat-women I spend time with these days seem to worry over trivial things in their relationships. They become very concerned over what the other person thinks of them, and so end up with doubts. This is a clear sign that you really need to work on knowing who you are. I strongly feel that to make a relationship succeed you need to understand yourself, accept all your faults and know what makes you unique and wonderful.

The other person in your life should be someone who sees all those aspects and still loves you. Mastering Valentine's day isn't just about giving a cute present and having a romantic experience, it is about celebrating your ability to love another and vice versa.

Anyways, it's that lovey-dubby time of the year and these are my reflections on it. No matter who you are trying to love in life make sure you love yourself first. :)
